Museum of the Historical Landscape of the Apennines

museo del paesaggio storico

The Museum of the Historical Landscape of the Apennines, housed in the Abbey of S. Pietro a Moscheta, tells the story of the evolution of this relationship between man and the environment. The museum tour opens with the history of the abbey and the role of the Vallombrosan monks (Section 1), and then leads visitors on a sensorial exploration of the landscape (Section 2).

Five chronological scenarios show how man has transformed the landscape:

- Forests and castles (Year 1000)
- Fields and woods (agricultural expansion)
- Roads and villages (between the 18th and 19th centuries)
- Farmhouse villas (until the 20th century)
- Rediscovered mountains (recent abandonment and enhancement)

The museum thus allows us to read the historical traces of the Apennine landscape, highlighting the deep connection between territory and history.

The museum is open every day from 10 am to 6 pm.
