Pietra Serena Museum
The Pietra Serena Museum in Firenzuola preserves traces of the ancient tradition of stonemasons and underlines the importance that pietra serena had in the development of the local community.
Founded on 19 December 1999, the Museum pays homage to the artisanal skill of the master stonemasons of Firenzuola and celebrates pietra serena, an essential material in local history and traditions. The museum is located in the basement rooms of the Rocca.
The museum itinerary begins with a section on "stone landscapes" and continues with an area dedicated to "quarry work". We then move on to a section on "everyday artifacts", which presents objects typical of peasant homes and work.
The Museum also reserves a space for the excavation and restoration work of the fortified structure, which led to the discovery of significant ceramic finds. The last spaces are dedicated to pietra serena as an "art stone", presenting artefacts created thanks to the technical skill of the master stonemasons of Firenzuola, who for centuries have used simple but effective tools to decorate and enhance monuments and buildings.
